Sending love to Turkey

February 2, 2025 (Monday) 10:00 AM-1:00 PM

Twelve Life Warriors from the Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation sent love to El Menahil International School. They met with Tzu Chi volunteers Mr. Hu Guang Zhong and his wife Zhou Ruyi, Yu Zicheng, Principal Cuma Thorayya, Vice Principal Ahmed Arion, Student Affairs Director Ziyad Zam, along with Syrian refugee teachers and students. The delegation presented Chou Ta-Kuan's posthumous work "I Still Have One Foot" and gifts from Taiwan, encouraging the Syrian refugee teachers and students to embark on their journey through the sea of knowledge and gain hope.

"El Menahal" is an Arabic transliteration meaning "spring in the desert," symbolizing a source of knowledge for children stranded in educational wastelands. El Menahil School gained accreditation from a U.S. educational accreditation agency in 2018 and was renamed the "El Menahil International School of Turkey". With recognition from Turkey's Ministry of Education, its graduates can pursue higher education anywhere in the world. El Menahil International School of Turkey delivers trilingual education: Arabic instruction preserves Syrian students' cultural heritage through refugee teachers educating their young compatriots in their native language; Turkish language skills facilitate integration into local society; while English studies connect them to the global community. Beyond providing Syrian refugee children with educational continuity during their displacement, the school empowers Syrian educators by restoring their professional dignity, enabling them to transition from beneficiaries to valuable contributors.

Public welfare architecture promotes equality in life and has garnered thirteen prestigious awards both domestically and internationally, including the International Humanitarian Aid Contribution Award, winner of the 2023 World Architecture Festival Civic & Community category, and Dezeen Awards 2024 Project of the Year. Most significantly, it has brought light, direction, and hope to thousands of Syrian refugees along their challenging path of displacement.
