China Daily, May 16th (Reporter Chen Shu) --Michel Sidibé, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNAIDS, was invited to participate in the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit held in Beijing on May 14-15th .
In a recent interview in Beijing, Sidibe told the media that the "Belt and Road" initiative is a very visionary and wonderful initiative that advocates inclusion rather than exclusion. "The Belt and Road Initiative not only promotes connectivity between countries, but also promotes tolerance and understanding among people, which will help the prevention and control of AIDS. Sidibe also highly affirmed of China's efforts to combat AIDS. He said that China has made great progress in the fight against AIDS and has effectively controlled the disease, as well as having innovative methods to prevent and treat AIDS. China has set an example for the world in the prevention and treatment of AIDS.
Finally, Sidibe also introduced the four directions of UNAIDS' future work. First, to control AIDS at the source, so that more people, especially young people, can understand AIDS; second, to allow more patients to be tested and treated; third, to allow more underdeveloped regions to be included in the prevention and control program; fourth, to promote innovation and encourage more advanced prevention and treatment technologies.
