From 19 to 23 October, at the invitation of the Ministry of Rural Development of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Zhang Yinjun, President of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation (BCEF), a special consultative body with the United Nations, and her entourage paid a friendly visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, during which they visited the Ministry of Rural Development and held talks and exchanges with Mrs. Matt Marrak, Secretary of State of the Ministry and other officials.
President Zhang Yinjun and her entourage went to Mondulkiri Province to attend and deliver a speech at the inauguration and handover ceremony of the Lancang-Mekong Primary School donated by the Cambodian-Chinese Centre for International Cultural Exchange (CCICE). Mrs. Mat Malak, Secretary of State of Cambodian Ministry of Rural Development, Deputy Governor of Mondulkiri Province and other local officials attended the event and delivered speeches.
BCEF donated 100 sets of multilingual adolescent health education video courses and 100 sets of school bags and school supplies for primary school students.
During her stay in Cambodia, President Zhang Yinjun also visited the Cambodian Chinese Schools run by overseas Chinese in Cambodia and HIC Island Hotel run by Mr. Lang Li, president of Living Stones Group and alumnus of Tsinghua University, and exchanged views with representatives of CCICE, the Lancang-Mekong Development Foundation (LMDF), and the office of China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) in Cambodia.
Gao Shuqun, Strategic Advisor of BCEF, and Zheng Yucong, Guangdong Province Advisor of BCEF, attended the above activities, which were organized and hosted all the way through by CCICE. Mr. Du Fujun, Chairman of CCICE invited President Zhang Yinjun and her entourage to visit Cambodia again in due course next year, hoping to work together to continue to carry out various public welfare endeavors, such as charitable and public welfare assistance to students in Cambodia.
The events were co-sponsored by the Ministry of Rural Development of the Kingdom of Cambodia, CCICE, LMDF, and BCEF, and Ms. Liu Ranling, Chinese Chairperson of the LMDF, organized the entire event.
This event is the second stop of BCEF to participate in the “Belt and Road” assistance. The Kingdom of Cambodia serves as an important node of the “Belt and Road” Initiative into the Indo-China Peninsula. Mondulkiri Province, located in the eastern part of the country, is a poor agricultural and rural area bordering Viet Nam. The Lancang-Mekong Primary School, the fifth primary school built under the auspices of the CCICE, is located in the Muslim neighborhood of Mondulkiri Province, and the students are mainly Muslim. In the future, it is planned to build a sixth primary school in partnership with BCEF. The inauguration and handover ceremony of the Lancang-Mekong Primary School attracted a lot of attention from all walks of life in the Kingdom of Cambodia, and was promptly covered by TVK as well as many media outlets such as Facebook.
