Editor's Note: At the foot of the majestic
Mount Everest sits the small town of Dingri County, perched at an average
altitude of 4,500 meters, where the sky gleams sapphire blue. On January 7,
2025, a powerful magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County, resulting in
significant casualties and property losses. After the disaster occurred, the
Party Central Committee attached great importance to it. General Secretary Xi
Jinping immediately issued important instructions, emphasizing the need to make
every effort to conduct search and rescue operations, treat the injured,
properly resettle the affected people, and handle aftermath work. In this
context, as a standing council member unit of the Beijing New Social Stratum
Association and the leading unit of the Social Public Welfare Special Committee,
Beijing Changier Education Foundation swiftly responded to the national call by
activating emergency assistance mechanisms and raising over RMB 1.19 million in
donations and supplies for post-disaster relief. Of this amount, RMB 900,000 in
dedicated educational assistance funds has been transferred to the Dingri County
Education Bureau to support students from disaster-affected families.
Additionally, 6,611 pieces of clothing were organized and transported to the
affected area, effectively ensuring the children's educational and living needs
are met.
On October 16, 2025, Beijing Changier Education
Foundation, a member organization of Beijing New Social Stratum Association's
"Chaoyang Growth" Youth Service Group, traveled to Dingri County to conduct the
"Dream Fulfillment Educational Support, Warmth to Dingri" charity donation drive
and home visits to assisted and disaster-affected families.
At the donation ceremony, Yan Shuwen, Dingri
County Deputy County Magistrate, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the
county Party committee and government to the Beijing New Social Stratum
Association and Beijing Changier Education Foundation: "You are not only
material supporters, but also spiritual encouragers, fully demonstrating the
social responsibility and great love of Beijing Changier Education Foundation,
making us deeply feel the concern and support from all sectors of society for
the disaster-stricken areas of Dingri."
Zhang Xiang, Director of the Asset Management
Committee of Beijing Changier Education Foundation, attended the event and gave
a speech. He said: "This is my first time setting foot on Xizang. I never
expected to come to this sacred and beautiful plateau for a charitable cause.
During my visits, I was deeply moved by the look in every child's eyes when they
firmly declared, 'I love going to school.' I hope this scholarship can truly
become a source of warmth within the children's books, paving a path to spring
for the children at the foot of Mount Everest!
Song Shizhen, Deputy Secretary-General of the
Tibet Development Fund, attended the ceremony and gave a speech. He highly
praised Beijing Changier Education Foundation's pragmatic approach and sense of
social responsibility: "They traveled to Xizang to carry out their work despite
the high-altitude oxygen deficiency and the exhaustion of long-distance travel.
This spirit is truly admirable. It is precisely through the continuous relay of
assistance from one charitable organization after another that the bonds of
kinship among the Chinese nation as one big family have taken root and
flourished on the snowy plateau. Tibet Development Fund will continue to deepen
its cooperation with Beijing Changier Education Foundation, making new and
greater contributions to building a community for the Chinese nation and writing
a new chapter for beautiful Xizang."
The Dingri County Education Bureau presented a
banner to the Beijing Changier Education Foundation to express their gratitude.
Director Wang Ren stated that they will strictly manage the donated funds and
materials to ensure that every penny and every item reaches the students who
need them most. "Those who drink the water must remember those who dug the well.
I hope the children will cherish this kindness and give back to society through
their outstanding achievements."
At the ceremony, Awang Drolma, a student
representative and aid recipient from Dingri County Second Junior High School,
spoke with deep emotion: "This assistance is like sunshine in winter, lighting
up my path to learning. I will transform my gratitude into motivation, study
diligently, and one day become someone who spreads love to others." Her words,
though simple, were resolute and earned thunderous applause from the entire
audience.
To effectively implement post-disaster
educational assistance efforts, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation team
overcame altitude sickness after arriving in Dingri and conducted home visits to
5 families of assisted students on the morning of the 16th, delivering essential
living and learning supplies including quilts, butter tea machines, and
stationery. Despite feeling breathless after every few steps, every staff member
felt deeply gratified seeing the pure and radiant smiles on the children's
faces. "These smiles are as pure and bright as the snow atop Mount Everest," a
volunteer reflected with deep emotion. "On this challenging plateau, love and
hope are taking root and blossoming alongside the children's smiles."
Before the donation ceremony, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation delegation held discussions and exchanges with the Dingri County Education Bureau and representatives from local kindergartens and primary and secondary schools, gaining detailed understanding of the actual difficulties faced by local schools in post-disaster education and teaching, students' psychological conditions, and their specific needs for public welfare assistance. This laid the foundation for more targeted educational assistance efforts going forward. In the future, Beijing Changier Education Foundation will further deepen its aid work in Xizang: it plans to donate "Education of Love" series books and video courses to schools in Xizang region to promote AIDS prevention, sexual health, and psychological education in classrooms; integrate high-quality teaching resources from Changier Huts nationwide to conduct customized teacher training; and continue to provide financial assistance to students in need, ensuring that no child drops out of school due to disasters or hardships.
Liu Baoli, Director of the Education Research
Department of Beijing Changier Education Foundation, Shen Kun, Director of the
Policy Research Department, volunteer Hou Jianying, and Jiang Wenjie, a
volunteer from Peking University Health Science Center, participated in the
aforementioned activities.
In recent years, under the leadership of President Zhang Yinjun, Beijing Changier Education Foundation has actively responded to the national call for aid to Xizang, deeply participating in educational assistance and public welfare services in the Xizang region. The Foundation has successively accompanied the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee and CPPCC·China Economic and Social Council to conduct field research and charitable donation activities in Lhasa, Rikaze, Nyingchi and other areas, cumulatively donating funds, materials and course services worth over RMB 47 million to Xizang. The Foundation has aided in the construction of 52 Changier Huts in Lhasa and Rikaze, trained over 180 mental health education teachers in Lhasa, Ngari Prefecture, Naqu and other areas, provided assistance to 490 students in difficult circumstances, conducted over 500 AIDS prevention and sex education awareness activities, with a cumulative total of 230,000 beneficiaries including students, teachers and parents. A series of pragmatic measures not only conveys social warmth, but also injects solid strength into the healthy growth of young people and the sustainable development of education in Xizang region.
