On July 30, 2024, the first session of the 6th China Economic and Social Council was convened at the CPPCC Auditorium. Wang Dongfeng, Vice-chairman and Secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, was elected as the Chairman of the 6th China Economic and Social Council and delivered a speech. Zhang Qingli, Vice-chairman and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the CPPCC National Committee, and Chairman of the 5th China Economic and Social Council, delivered a work report on behalf of the Executive Council of the 5th China Economic and Social Council.

The meeting reviewed and approved the revised Statute of the China Economic and Social Council, and elected the Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, Secretary-General, Executive Directors, and Directors of the 6th China Economic and Social Council. President Zhang Yinjun of the Beijing Changier Education Foundation has been re-elected as a council member.

The China Economic and Social Council is affiliated with the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and is a national economic and social research consulting organization and high-end think tank in China. It is an official member of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Organizations. Comprised of experts and scholars from Chinese economics, sociology, and managers and operators from related entities, it was established on July 2, 2001.
